The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino resort rests on the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. and Tropicana Ave. This location puts MGM Grand right in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. This resort was opened in 1993 after expanding upon, and largely replacing the Marina Hotel. As one of the most massive casino resorts in the world, this emerald green building is an impressive sight. Sadly though, this is not a particularly great casino for craps-junkies. To learn more, simply read on. The MGM Grand Hotel is broken into three distinct buildings.
The main tower, the green glass-plated building that makes up the majority of the complex has over 5,000 rooms, 751 of which are suites. Then there are three suite-only towers that make up The Signature at MGM Grand. These three towers, all together, hold 576 suites. There are also 51 lofts within the Skylofts at MGM Grand, and 29 distinct villas within The Mansion at MGM Grand. As you go up through the hierarchy, these rooms get more impressive, but also much more expensive. The hotel rooms in the MGM grand are all quite luxurious, even the cheapest ones. Expect a good bit of floors space and amenities such as Jaccuzi bath tubs, flat screen TV's, and great linens. Overall, these rooms haven't seen any serious renovations in years, and they are about due. Luckily the cleaning and maintenance staff take care of every detail so cleanliness is never an issue. MGM Grand operates a huge complex and every square inch of it is designed to keep you entertained.
One great attraction for the whole family is the Grand Pool Complex. This consists of 5 separate swimming pools, several hot tubs, and their world famous lazy river. These pools are not open 24 hours a day, so make sure you check the schedule before planning a day in the sun. Also, surprisingly, none of the pools are deeper than 3-4 feet. This may be a safety issue, but it would be nice to be able to dive somewhere. When you arrive at the airport, go straight to the MGM Grand desk in the airport. You can get fully checked in here, and if the room isn't ready, they will call you when it is and you can go right up. There are sixteen restaurants as well as a variety of bars, lounges, and shops right inside this resort. Their traditional, Vegas-styled steak house is named Craft and while it is good, these places are a dime a dozen in Vegas. The sushi bar is great but picky eaters aren't always interested in that option, so you might want to start of at Emeril's signature restaurant. Even though you could spend a week in the MGM Grand, when you first visit Las Vegas, you really have to get out to get the full experience, and its never been easier. The MGM Grand is one of the few Las Vegas Casinos that is directly connected to the Monorail. That's right, straight from your building you can hop on this public transportation line and go to other hot spots on the strip or even go all the way to downtown Vegas. This service runs from 7:00 am to 2:00 am on week days, and from Friday-Sunday it's available until 3:00 am. The MGM Grand boasts the largest casino in Clark County.
The casino floor covers over 170,000 square feet which means every game is fully covered. If you are interested, you should check out their recently updated sports book and poker room. Variety might be the casino's greatest strength, but they are lagging behind in the craps department. Their ten craps tables will accept bets between $5 and $5,000, though the minimums are often higher. Like so many of the 'average' craps casinos, this facility only offers 3-4-5x odds. You can enjoy the MGM Grand's luxury while playing games like blackjack and roulette, but since you are on the strip anyway, check out Casino Royale for 100x odds when you want to play craps. Originally the entrance to the MGM Grand was through the large mouth of Leo the Lion (the companies mascot). Due to feng shui guidelines that advised against this, the entrance was changed to its current design. Overall, is a great all-around choice. It has received some much needed renovations and can offer the Vegas experience of your dreams. You can also get some great deals if you book your trip carefully.Share on:
